Abstract

The article analyses the aspects of formation of the culture of speech and communication skills of law enforcement officers. It is proved that tolerance, effective solution of professional tasks in the course of performance of official duties by police officers requires a certain level of knowledge, skills and abilities, and one of the defining personal characteristics is communicative competence. Particular attention is paid to law enforcement officers' speech, since it is primarily associated with the concepts of "statehood" and "law". The importance of ethical behaviour of law enforcement officers has led to the need to fix the requirements for external and internal manifestations of tolerance at the legislative level. The article analyses a number of functions which are realised in the process of communication and are conditioned by a variety of professional situations, in particular: pragmatic, which enables direct performance of official duties; confirmation, which is manifested, in particular, in praise or remarks about the work of a police officer; formative, which ensures the adoption of experience; communicative, which enables communication in each individual situation for a specific purpose. The article identifies the communication techniques that give a police officer a choice of forms and methods of communication using certain language means. The main communication techniques are characterised as those which depend on a number of factors; techniques for creating and using an optimal communication environment, techniques for involving a partner in communication. The components of communication, which are revealed in direct communication in a particular situation, are clarified. It is recommended to follow the stages of the communicative act to achieve the goal. The stages of business communication of a police officer include psychological attunement to the interlocutor, "reading" the features of appearance, establishing contact, creating favourable conditions for communication; direct communication, speech influence on the interlocutor with a view to achieving professional tasks; self-analysis.
